Testosterone Culture : The Boys Locker Room

Gender discrimination and sexism has been a universal phenomenon. When the scriptures are denying the discrimination, we Indians, who are the rigid followers of the religion, why do not understand the history behind the word ‘equality’? Equality, in itself, is a vast concept and knows its origins. Gender is supposed to be illusory and superficial and we are to treat it equally, but in reality, absofuckinglutely, we do not ground it into our culture.

Inside the Testosterone soaked culture of “Boys only groups”, where sexist jokes, hardcore porn, butt GIFs, memes comparing Sunny Leone’s bare breasts to Alphonso mangoes, there is always "objectification” of the opposite gender and morphing of pictures, glorifying her body parts- butts, boobs and classifying them on the basis of shapes and sizes. Disturbing, disgusting, shocking, and ultimately, not surprising- a repetitive pattern that patriarchy has given rise to by excusing and exonerating the actions of boys under the tag “Boys will be Boys” and concealing them behind the face of the “not all men” movement. Who gave you the right? What gave you the right? The inherited pride in being more ‘masculine’ than others?

“If you feel proud of just a damn organ, then you should be taken to town square and clapped at by society for having it. Include a medal of Honor! Imagine it and stay low in the concerned case. If you feel so proud of what you have inherited from your forefathers, well then claps for you. The world should give you a medal of Victory- you shamed a Human in the guise of inheritance. You got proud of something which was not even under your control. Feel blessed rather than proud.”

A lot of social groups in our universe consider the female person as their head - in an ant group, there is always a “Queen Ant” and in a beehive, there is always a “Queen bee”- considered as the leader. Why do we depreciate women and can not let her equal to us in the name of humanity? Why do we behave superior? Being superior in society is just like a fool’s gold. Start learning from the environment, lioness and lion both have equal respect. Value is not just a word, it has a whole story behind it. The problem exists here. People have forgotten the culture of valuing others and they simply undervalue them. Where some people shame or mock others on their genitals, other ones defend themselves by backtalk and the cycle continues. It's just breasts and hips It’s Vagina and cleave, Nothing Strange, Nothing new, Usual Woman’s body.


Is it so wrong to have a woman's body structure? Gender segregation has not been alien to me, growing up in a typical Indian culture where in family gatherings, males and females segregated into separate groups and had those cliched conversations where subjects were attributed to genders- business, politics to men and household, kids to women. Is it because you- yes you- the man has a role in giving birth to an heir that you objectify your counterpart? Often claimed to be a safe space by boys, Boys Locker room groups- or “only boys groups” have originated to share sexually charged situations with the like-minded, similarly gendered peers. It is disheartening to hear the glorification of gang rape. And Kudos to women like Ashna Sharma who come forward, despite all the blackmails, to deal with a situation like this and expose it before the world.



Dear #boyslockerroom, repeat it after me, infinite times, until you live on this Earth:
WE NEED TO HAVE “THE TALK” WITH OUR PARENTS AND MAKE SEX EDUCATION COMPULSORY FOR A MILLION ADOLESCENTS LIKE US IN INDIA. WE NEED TO LEARN WHAT GENDER IS AND WE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO VALUE THE OTHER”
